Custom Sunset and Sky Paintings from Your Photo, Hand Painted on Canvas

Send us your sunset photo and we paint it by hand on canvas, in the size your wall needs. Our studio is in Dafen Art Village in Shenzhen, China. We paint in acrylic unless you ask for oil. Nothing is printed. A dull phone photo is fine to start with. Tell us how the light looked to you and we paint toward that, not toward the pixels. Standard sizes run from 24 by 20 inches up to 80 by 60 inches, and any other size is painted to your measurements at the same rate. There is no minimum order. Production takes 7 to 10 business days for 1 to 5 pieces. We photograph the finished canvas and send you the photos, and nothing leaves the studio until you approve it.

Your sunset, painted by hand

Most people who write to us have one photo they keep going back to. A honeymoon sky over the water. The evening the wedding party spilled onto the beach. A desert road on a long drive. The view from a kitchen window that will not be theirs much longer. The photo is small and a little blurry, and it does not look like the evening felt.

That is the job we like. A painter reads the photo, then paints the sky the way you describe it. Brush and knife marks sit on the surface, so the paint catches light from the side. You can feel the ridges of the clouds with your hand. It is a real painting, not a print with texture sprayed over the top. The photo is only the start

Phone cameras flatten sunsets. They pull the orange toward gray and lose the glow around the sun. We are not copying the file, so we do not have to keep those faults.

• Richer color. Tell us the sky was deeper, pinker or more violet than the photo shows, and we paint it that way. Send a second photo taken a minute earlier or later if you have one, since the two together tell us a lot about the light.
• Combine photos. The sky from one shot and your beach, boat, pier or dog from another can go into a single painting. Send both and say which part comes from where.
• Remove what you do not want. Parked cars, a trash bin, a stranger in the corner, power lines. We leave them out.
• Add people, or leave them out. Two small figures on the sand read as you and your partner without needing faces. If you want faces that look like the person, that is portrait work, and our painters handle it as a portrait commission.
• Sky only. Plenty of buyers want no land and no water at all. A bank of lit clouds filling the whole canvas is one of the calmest large pieces you can hang.

Skies we paint

Choose the feel: realistic, impressionist or textured

Same photo, three very different paintings. It helps to tell us which one you want before we start.

• Realistic. Clear shapes, smooth blending in the sky, the boat looks like your boat. Closest to the photograph.
• Impressionist. Loose strokes, softer edges, color doing the work. From two steps back it reads clearly, up close it breaks into marks.
• Textured. Heavy knife work, paint standing up off the canvas. This is the look in most of the sunsets in our catalog.

The easiest way to be sure is to point at something. Open our sunrise and sunset collection, pick the painting whose handling you like, and say “my photo, painted like that one.” Our painter then has your photo and a clear target.

Size, format and where it hangs

Sunsets are wide by nature, so most of these paintings are horizontal. A common choice above a three seat sofa is 60 by 30 inches or 72 by 36 inches. Above a king bed, 60 by 30 inches sits well inside the headboard width. For a narrow wall beside a door or above a console, a tall format such as 24 by 36 inches keeps the sky and drops most of the land.

If your wall is very wide, a set of three panels covers it without one enormous canvas, and each panel ships and hangs more easily. Or start from a catalog sunset and change it

You do not need a photo at all. Every design in the collection can be painted at your size, and we can shift the color while we paint it.

1. Pick a design from the sunrise and sunset collection and send us the link.
2. Say what to change. Warmer, cooler, less contrast, more pink in the clouds, calmer water, no boats. Any of that is normal.
3. Send your wall. A photo of the room, a paint code, or a fabric photo tells us what the painting has to live next to.
4. Approve the color first. For paint code matching we mix the color, photograph it in daylight and send that photo to you before painting begins. More on that on our color matched paintings page.

Gifts, anniversaries and how long it really takes

Production is 7 to 10 business days for 1 to 5 pieces. Pieces 36 by 48 inches and larger, heavy texture and multi-panel sets sit at the top of that band, because thick paint has to dry between layers. Oil takes longer than acrylic for the same reason, so for a dated gift acrylic is usually the safer choice. Express by FedEx or DHL then takes 5 to 10 business days.

We will not promise your painting will land on a particular date, because customs and couriers are not ours to control. Add a buffer of a couple of weeks on top of the windows above and you will be comfortable. Tell us the date when you first write and we will say honestly whether it is realistic.

During a commission we send progress photos, so a gift buyer can see the sky taking shape. If you want a date, place name or coordinates painted somewhere on the canvas, ask when you send the photo and we will tell you what we can do. Good fit, not a fit

Finish, freight and payment

Choose rolled in a tube, stretched on solid wood bars, or framed in black, white, wood, silver or gold. All five frame colors cost the same. Heavy texture ships stretched or framed, because rolling thick paint is not a good idea. Rolled canvas is the cheapest way to ship a larger order, especially above about 20 pieces.

Delivery is EXW our Shenzhen studio and freight is quoted separately at cost, with nothing added by us. Express runs 5 to 10 business days; air freight and sea freight are available, and sea takes 25 to 40 days. CIF and DDP on request. Payment is usually a 50 percent deposit with the balance before the goods are released, by wire transfer, PayPal or card. Hand-executed paintings fall under HTS 9701, which carries a free base rate of duty into the United States, though other China-origin measures can apply, so check with a customs broker. Did not find your sky? Send us what you like and we paint it

Browse the sunrise and sunset collection first, since one of those may already be close. If nothing there is your sky, send us what you do like. Your own photo, a screenshot of a room you saw, a Pinterest board, a paint chip, a rough sketch, even an AI image you generated. We read it, ask a couple of questions and paint an original piece toward it.

Include your wall measurement, the finish you want, and roughly when you need it. WhatsApp replies are usually immediate; email replies usually arrive within 12 hours.
