Custom Hand-Painted Art for Interior Designers in Germany

A multifunctional interior gives a painting more than one audience. At Bastei Lübbe’s Cologne headquarters, completed in 2025, brandherm + krumrey combined reception, working, meeting and social uses around a staircase and connecting gallery. The publisher’s library and shop also form part of the interior. This is bki’s project, with no PaletteMomento involvement.

For a comparable mixed-use brief, decide how your chosen image should read from the entrance, from a seat and from the upper level. A dark mass that anchors the view from the doorway can feel much heavier beside a small conversation area. Send those viewpoints with the artwork file, so scale and contrast are deliberate choices.

Make the flat artwork file the painting reference; use the room render to explain its setting. A rendered canvas may already contain perspective distortion, shadows from a lamp and reflections. Those effects should not automatically become painted marks.

• Mark the artwork’s intended boundaries and identify any part hidden by furniture.
• Give the finished canvas dimensions in centimetres, including which side is the width.
• List the shapes, lettering or image details that must remain unchanged.
• Separate colours belonging to the image from colours caused by the rendered lighting.

If your only reference is an angled render, ask us to review its suitability before you commit. You should approve any necessary reconstruction, simplification or crop before painting starts.

Hamburg’s JOI-Design describes an approach connecting brand identity, atmosphere and the use of space. That independent practice is a useful reminder to make your painting instructions more precise than “match the brand”. Your canvas can support a brand without covering the room in its strongest corporate colour.

Tell us whether an accent must be dominant, limited to a small area or omitted. Identify your approved paint, textile or graphic reference, then mark where it applies in the image. If an exact brand colour is essential, discuss a physical comparison method before production; a colour code and a phone screen cannot guarantee an identical painted appearance.

Keep this hierarchy consistent with nearby signage. The artwork should not accidentally look like another directional panel or compete with a logo you intended to remain the focal point.

For connected rooms, prepare a schedule with one row per canvas: room name, reference filename, dimensions, orientation and allowed changes. “Same series” is too loose when one room needs a narrow vertical and another a wide horizontal.

Record what ties the group together: the background tone, edge softness, brushwork character or proportion of a dark accent. Then name what may vary. You might preserve the same background while changing the placement of the main form. That is a production instruction you can check, rather than a request for several vaguely similar pictures.

Where your composition contains client-owned graphics, supply the approved artwork file. Keep any internal names or unreleased branding labelled as confidential in your brief.

Review the whole composition first, then the surface. PaletteMomento shares progress photographs and videos, followed by daylight photographs of the finished canvas for your approval. Compare those views with the approved reference, not an older concept revision.

Use full views for crop and colour balance; use close views for brushwork, edges and small details. For related pieces, ask to compare them together so a darker background or stronger accent is visible before dispatch. Paintings are made in acrylic on linen, with oil available on request. Discuss the required surface character early: a quiet, softly brushed finish and pronounced texture make different contributions beside timber, upholstery and architectural lighting.
