Custom Hand-Painted Art for Interior Designers in the Netherlands

In an interview published by the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency, ING’s collection team explains that more transparent, glazed offices leave less wall space for art. This is a particular organisation’s experience, not a rule for every Dutch workplace. It is nevertheless a useful check before you convert a presentation image into a painting order.

Mark each solid hanging surface on your final plan. Exclude areas becoming cupboards, screens or glazed partitions. A canvas selected for a long wall should not arrive after that wall has been divided into a door and a short return. For a small number of remaining walls, choose the exact image and crop for each position.

Send views from the approach route and the nearest seating position, alongside a straight-on elevation. They explain whether your selected image is a distant focal point or a work people will inspect closely.

If reflections or busy background views surround it, tell us which forms need to remain clear. A request for “more impact” can otherwise lead to stronger contrast everywhere, including areas you intended to stay quiet. Mark the important contour, light area or colour accent instead.

Confirm the side treatment where people can see the canvas edge from a corridor. Include the planned lighting direction when specifying pronounced texture: raised paint can cast shadows that are invisible in a flat reference image.

At Hotel Van der Valk in Enschede, the interior by P.A.M. Teunissen and Marco Bolderheij connects fine textiles, natural materials and artwork to Twente’s textile heritage, according to Kvadrat’s account of the project. The cited hotel and ING collection are independent examples; PaletteMomento did not supply them.

If your own approved concept also draws on local craft, say which part should be translated into paint. You may want the rhythm of a weave, the irregular spacing of threads or the contrast between two yarn colours. Those are different instructions from asking for a literal picture of fabric.

Provide your own drawing, authorised textile image or marked composition. Identify whether the textile is a colour reference, a motif reference or both. We should not infer that every pattern visible on your mood board belongs in the finished canvas.

Paint can suggest the rhythm and visual depth you specify, but a painted surface will behave differently from woven cloth. Decide whether your aim is visual interpretation or a faithful rendering of the reference image, then agree what details matter.

• Pattern scale: show how large a repeated mark should feel on the finished canvas.
• Surface: distinguish visible brushwork from thick relief and from painted shadows that only suggest texture.
• Colour: identify the dominant yarn or fabric tone and any accent that must stay restrained.
• Edges: mark where the pattern stops, fades or continues beyond the visible face.

These decisions matter when the painting sits beside actual woven upholstery. Send the relevant fabric reference so you can assess the relationship, while allowing for differences between cloth, paint and photographed colour.

For several related rooms, keep an approved master reference and label each variant by location. Record which elements repeat and which change. A common background and brushwork direction may tie a group together while the central forms vary.
