Order a hand-painted reproduction of Sandro Botticelli’s Birth of Venus on premium linen, in acrylic or oil, at the original panoramic proportion or a custom size for your wall. The Uffizi original is a vast tempera-on-canvas composition, so a new linen canvas is an honest painted interpretation, not a material-identical copy. One painter takes each canvas from drawing through the final linear details. Nothing is printed. We share photos and short videos as the painting goes, then send daylight photographs of the finished canvas for your approval before it ships.

The title is familiar, but the Uffizi describes a more precise moment. Botticelli does not show Venus emerging from the sea. He shows the goddess of love and beauty arriving on the shore of Cyprus after her birth from sea spray. She stands on a giant scallop shell while Zephyr and, perhaps, Aura blow her toward land. At right, a young woman, sometimes identified as a Grace or the Hora of spring, reaches forward with a flowered cloak.
The original dates from about 1485 and measures 172.5 by 278.5 cm, or around 68 by 110 inches. It is much larger than many reproductions suggest, and its size is part of the experience. The figures are arranged across one wide, shallow stage of sea, sky, shore, roses, wind, hair, and drapery. Venus holds the centre, but the painting relies on the movement between all three figure groups.
The Uffizi identifies the work as tempera on canvas. PaletteMomento paints a new reproduction on premium linen in acrylic or oil, so it should never be described as the same material object as Botticelli’s original. The Uffizi collection record is the source for the original-work facts on this page. It is not a claim of museum affiliation.
What makes this image memorable is not realism in the modern sense. Botticelli creates movement through rhythmic contour: Venus’s hair lifts and wraps around her body; the wind figures embrace and blow; roses cross the air; the cloak at right billows in response. The sea and shore form a simplified setting so the figures and their lines can remain legible across the broad canvas.
The image also has a carefully held balance between stillness and motion. Venus stands in a composed, almost statue-like pose, while the surrounding wind, hair, flowers, and fabric stream across the picture. A convincing reproduction must preserve that contrast. If every fold or lock of hair receives the same heavy texture, the figure loses her calm centre. If the lines become too faint, the whole work loses its musical continuity.
The Uffizi notes that a Medici commission is highly probable, but the painting is not documented before Vasari described it in 1550. That uncertainty is worth retaining. It allows the page to explain the work’s mythological and Renaissance significance without pretending that every detail of its original commission is settled fact.
This is not a picture that can be rebuilt by making Venus sharp and treating the rest as background. Its meaning and its composition depend on continuous relationships across an unusually wide field.

One painter is responsible for the entire canvas. On a large Renaissance composition, that continuity matters because the central figure, wind figures, cloak, shell, hair, roses, and landscape all need to belong to one proportion and line system.
Acrylic is our standard material and suits a clear, layered hand-painted reproduction. Oil is available on request for buyers who specifically want an oil painting reproduction. The Uffizi original is tempera on canvas, however, so neither new material should be presented as a material-identical duplicate. This is a fresh, unsigned painting after Botticelli, never a printed image or a surface treatment over a print.
A wide Renaissance composition can look detailed in a product photograph even when it is printed. Look for whether paint changes follow Botticelli’s distinct systems of line, figure, and setting.
PaletteMomento paints each reproduction by hand on premium linen. We do not print an image, and we do not add texture over a print.
The original has a width-to-height ratio of about 1.61. Its broad horizontal shape is essential: Venus is not meant to sit alone in a narrow portrait crop. Sizes such as 24 by 40, 30 by 48, 36 by 60, 45 by 72, and 50 by 80 inches can keep close to the original relationship at different wall scales. A near-original-size recreation is very large, so most installations work from a reduced but proportionate canvas.
For a living room, hotel lobby, stair hall, reception, gallery-style corridor, or feature restaurant wall, begin with the usable wall width and the viewing distance. The sides of the composition carry real meaning: the wind figures and the approaching cloak are not expendable margins. If a wall cannot accommodate the full ratio, a different Botticelli subject or a separate custom-art composition is usually a better solution than cropping Venus for convenience.
Best for a home or compact public wall. A proportionate horizontal canvas keeps all three figure groups and the arriving movement across the shore.
Appropriate for a broad lobby, stair hall, reception, or gallery-style living room where the figures can be read from a comfortable distance.
Possible where transport or installation requires it, but the panel division must be planned around the figure groups and major lines before painting begins.
Useful for a very long commercial wall. The gaps and their relation to Venus, shell, winds, and cloak are reviewed before the composition is divided.
PaletteMomento offers 60 standard sizes from 24 by 20 to 80 by 60 inches as well as custom measurements. Send the room image, usable wall width and height, furniture below the work, quantity, and intended finish. We will help settle a scale that preserves the painting’s full argument rather than force it into a generic rectangle.
Oil is available on request for buyers who specifically want an oil painting reproduction. It needs more time between layers and is best for a project with a longer schedule. It is a choice of new paint material, not an assertion that the work has been recreated in Botticelli’s original tempera medium.
Acrylic is PaletteMomento’s standard material. It is practical for a large, layered figural composition when the project has a defined installation date. The material choice should serve the brief: oil when that material is important, acrylic when the production schedule needs more flexibility.
Our standard material. Appropriate for a large, layered Renaissance composition with a defined installation schedule.
Available on request for buyers who want an oil painting reproduction. It needs more time between layers and therefore a longer schedule.
Ready to hang, with the shore and figure composition carried naturally around the canvas edge. It is usually right for an individual installation.
Black, white, wood, silver, or gold framing gives a finished presentation. Rolled canvas can suit larger project orders and needs careful restretching at destination.
This work is suited to places where a broad figurative statement is wanted: a lobby, stair hall, reception, spa, restaurant, hotel, office, retail setting, event venue, club, model home, or large residential living room. It should not be treated as a generic “Venus” decoration. Its mythological story and long horizontal rhythm are what give it authority in a space.
Send the wall dimensions, an interior image, furniture below the work, intended frame, and installation date. The main decision is whether the complete panoramic composition has enough room to breathe. For multiple works, canvas scale and finishing can be coordinated across mixed designs.
For public-facing interiors, the painting reads from afar through the central shell and figure group, then reveals the connected wind, hair, rose, shore, and cloak motifs close up. It can be installed as a single canvas or a carefully planned panel set. Browse related options through our reproductions catalogue.
There is no minimum order. Trade rates improve at 6 pieces and again at 21, with mixed designs counted together. Production is usually 7 to 10 business days for 1 to 5 pieces, 10 to 15 business days for 6 to 20 pieces, and 15 to 20 business days for 21 to 50 pieces. Larger canvases, panels, and oil sit toward the longer end of their production band. For a first order or larger project, a sample can be painted first, with the sample cost credited back on an order of 10 pieces or more.
For a trade quote, send the artwork, dimensions, quantity, finish, destination, and installation date. WhatsApp replies are usually immediate; email replies usually arrive within 12 hours. Our trade page explains the wider project process.
Yes. Sandro Botticelli died in 1510, and Birth of Venus was painted around 1485. The work is in the public domain under the United States and European Union conditions used for PaletteMomento reproductions. That allows a new hand-painted reproduction of a qualifying public-domain source.
It does not allow a new canvas to be presented as an original Botticelli, as an item connected with the Uffizi, or as an aged historical object. Every PaletteMomento version is unsigned and clearly described as a hand-painted reproduction after Botticelli. We do not copy a signature or claim museum affiliation.
