Custom Horse Paintings from Your Photos: Portraits, Racing, Polo, Arabians

We paint horses by hand, to order, from your photos. Send a clear photo of your horse and our studio in Dafen Art Village, Shenzhen paints it in oil or acrylic on canvas, in any size. You choose the medium. We can change the background, add your field or barn, and combine two horses from separate photos into one painting. You see progress photos while we paint, then photos of the finished canvas. Nothing ships until you approve the likeness. There is no minimum order, and 1 to 5 paintings take 7 to 10 business days.

Horse paintings we make

One studio for the owner who wants a likeness and the designer who wants a wide running-horses canvas. Every piece is painted by hand, never printed. If the commission is a different animal, our custom animal paintings page covers lions, elephants and highland cows.

Photos that work best

A clear phone photo is enough. What matters is that we can see the horse well.

• Angle. A side view or a three-quarter view shows the build of the horse best. A head-only photo is perfect for a head study.
• Light. Soft daylight is best, outside or in an open barn door. Avoid hard shadows across the face and avoid flash, which flattens the coat.
• Distance. Stand back and fill the frame with the whole horse. Cropped shots lose the ears or the hooves.
• How many. Send several if you have them. We can take the best pose from one photo and the light or setting from another, and a close-up helps us get the markings right.

If your horse has passed away and you only have a few older photos, send what you have. Tell us his true coat color and anything a photo might not show, like a small star or a scar. We will tell you honestly what we can paint before you commit.

Backgrounds, second horses and riders

The photo is the starting point, not the limit. Tell us what you want around the horse.

• A plain background. A dark studio backdrop makes a bay or a gray glow and suits a classic portrait. A light neutral ground reads more modern.
• Your own place. Send a photo of your field, paddock or barn and we paint the horse into it.
• Two or more horses. We combine horses from separate photos into one painting. Send each horse’s best photo and tell us the order you want them in.
• A rider. We can paint you, your child or a jockey on the horse from a separate photo. Tell us the tack and colors you want shown.

Size guide for horse art

Any size works. Our standard sizes run from 24 by 20 inches up to 80 by 60 inches, plus sets of two and three. If none of those fit your wall, we paint any other size to your measurements at the same rate. Larger single canvases we quote case by case.

Oil or acrylic, and how loose the brushwork should be

Both oil and acrylic are available, and you choose. Oil gives soft blending in the coat and a glowing depth in dark backgrounds, but it has to dry between layers, so larger oil pieces sit at the top of the production band. Acrylic dries fast and holds crisp edges and bright color, which suits modern or graphic horse art. • Realistic. Fine detail in the eye, the muzzle and the mane. The usual choice for a portrait or a memorial.
• Loose and painterly. Visible strokes, softer edges, more movement. Good for racing and polo scenes.
• Textured. Thick paint or plaster texture in the mane and background. Heavy texture ships stretched or framed, not rolled.
• Minimalist. One horse on a flat color ground, like MA05 above.

Timeline, likeness approval and the repaint promise

1. Send photos. Use the quote form. Attach your horse photos, the size you have in mind and where it will hang.
2. WhatsApp replies are usually immediate; email replies usually arrive within 12 hours, Monday to Sunday, with a quote and any questions about the composition.
3. Deposit. Usually 50 percent to start, by wire transfer, PayPal or card. The balance is due before the goods are released.
4. Painting. 7 to 10 business days for 1 to 5 pieces. We send progress photos so you can point out anything early, such as a marking or the set of the ears.
5. Approval. We photograph the finished canvas and send the photos. Nothing leaves the studio until you approve the likeness.
6. Shipping. Express by FedEx or DHL takes 5 to 10 business days. Freight is quoted separately at cost.

If a piece has a defect that is our fault, we repaint it at our cost. We would rather repaint than ship a portrait you do not love.

Equestrian interiors in volume

Stud farms, polo clubs, hotels and interior designers order horse art in sets. Trade pricing starts from one piece. The rate improves at 6 pieces and again at 21, and mixed designs count together. 6 to 20 pieces take 10 to 15 business days. Rolled canvas is the cheapest way to ship more than about 20 pieces. Any of them works as a starting point, and we adjust the size to your wall and match colors to a paint chip or fabric sample.
