Paintings for Arabic and Gulf Homes: Majlis, Villa and Hotel Art

Most wall art catalogs are built for European and American rooms. A majlis is a different wall: long, low seating, high ceilings, and a palette of sand, limestone, gold and warm wood. We paint for that wall. Every piece is hand-painted to order in our studio in Dafen Art Village, Longgang District, Shenzhen, at any size, matched to your fabric or marble. What Gulf homes are hanging now

The heavy burgundy and gilt look has been giving way to a quieter palette: dune terracotta, limestone cream, sand beige, olive and desert green, with gold used as an accent rather than a frame around everything. Texture has taken over from detail. A plaster-look canvas in cream and sand reads as expensive at three meters, where a busy printed image reads as flat. What we are asked for most: a large textured piece above the majlis seating, a desert or dune landscape at sunset for the entrance, an Arabian horse or falcon in the study, a geometric pattern piece in a stairwell, and calligraphy panels supplied by the client’s own calligrapher.

Motifs we paint, and how we treat each one

• Desert and dunes. Sunset and blue hour, layered ridges, a single acacia or a caravan line. Best at wide proportions, 200 centimeters and up, above low seating.
• Palm groves and oases. Green against sand, often paired with a second smaller canvas for balance.
• Dhow boats and the coast. Traditional sail against calm water, in blues and sand tones. We name the countries rather than the body of water.
• Arabian horses. Portraits of a specific horse from your photographs, or a classic study. Popular in Riyadh and Doha studies and stables.
• Falcons and camels. A generic falcon or camel study, painted from your reference. We do not reproduce national emblems, flags or royal portraits.
• Islamic geometric pattern and arabesque. Girih and zellige-style geometry, painted large in one or two colors with real texture, or as a tone-on-tone plaster relief.
• Calligraphy as artwork. We paint from a design you supply. You confirm the exact text before we start. We do not write, compose or correct Arabic script.

Sizing a majlis wall

Majlis seating is long and low, so the art has to be wide rather than tall, and hung lower than you would in a Western living room.

Matching gold, sand and marble

Gold is the color that goes wrong most often, because a screen cannot show it. Our method is simple. Send a daylight photo of the fabric, the marble slab or the metal finish, next to a sheet of white paper, or a paint code. We mix the key colors first, photograph the mixed paint in daylight, and start only after you approve the photo. The approval photos at the end include a shot of the finished canvas beside that same reference.

A painting is not a flat paint film. We match the dominant colors and the mood, and the canvas keeps tonal range on purpose. That is what makes it read as art rather than as a color card.

Texture: plaster look and impasto in sand tones

Heavy texture is what makes a large neutral canvas work. We build it with knife-applied paste and layered paint, so the surface catches the low evening light in a majlis. Two things follow from that. Thick pieces have to dry between layers, so they sit at the top of their production band. And heavy texture ships stretched or framed, never rolled, because rolling cracks thick paint.

We paint in acrylic unless you ask for oil. Oil is available on request. Because oil dries slowly between layers, oil pieces take longer.

For designers, villa contractors and hotel teams

• Trade pricing starts at one piece. Rates improve at 6 pieces and again at 21, and mixed designs count together across a villa or a floor of guest rooms.
• For a first order or a large project we paint a sample. The sample cost is credited back on any order of 10 pieces or more.
• Production is 7 to 10 business days for 1 to 5 pieces, 10 to 15 for 6 to 20, 15 to 20 for 21 to 50, and 20 to 30 for 51 to 100.
• We keep your palette, sizes and references on file, so a second villa or a replacement piece matches the first.
• We ship unbranded, direct to your client or the site, with no PaletteMomento paperwork in the box. Designers can open a trade account or read the designer page.

Getting it to Dubai, Riyadh, Doha and Kuwait

Prices are EXW our Shenzhen studio. Freight is quoted separately at cost with the artwork, so you see the landed figure before you decide. Shenzhen to the Gulf is a short and well served route.

• Express courier by FedEx or DHL, 5 to 10 business days, best for rolled tubes and small orders.
• Air freight for stretched or framed pieces and mid-size projects.
• Sea freight in 25 to 40 days in a wooden crate, for villa or hotel programs. We confirm the crate count before you book transport.
• Customs. Hand-painted paintings are classified under HTS 9701 in most tariff systems. GCC import duty and VAT rules differ by country and by whether you import as a company or an individual. Please confirm with your customs broker. We provide the invoice and packing list you need.
• Rolled versus stretched. Rolled costs far less to ship and any framer in Dubai or Riyadh stretches it in a day. Choose stretched or framed for heavy texture or when there is no framer nearby.

Ramadan, Eid and handover dates

Gifting and villa handovers cluster, so plan backward. Add the production band, the freight range and the approval step together, and tell us the date on your enquiry. We confirm in writing whether it is realistic before you pay a deposit. If it is not, we say so. It also helps to send the wall size, the quantity and the delivery address together, since that is what a real quote needs.
