A still life is a painting of objects that sit still. Fruit in a bowl, flowers in a vase, bread and wine on a table, one lemon on bare wood. We paint still lifes by hand in our studio in Dafen Art Village, Shenzhen, on canvas, never printed. You choose the subject, the size and the colors, and we can paint the objects you already own from your photos. There is no minimum order. We paint in acrylic unless you ask for oil.

What a custom still life can be

Most people picture one of two things when they hear still life. A dark old painting of grapes and a wine glass, or a bright bowl of lemons in a farmhouse kitchen. Both count, and so does everything in between.

Fruit and food

Lemons, figs, grapes, bread, olives and cheese on a board. Easy to live with in a kitchen. Lemon branches and olive groves turn up in our Mediterranean paintings too, if you want the whole landscape instead of one table.

Flowers in a vase

Peonies, sunflowers, roses, tulips, a loose garden bunch. The biggest part of our catalog.

Wine and the table

Bottles, a decanter, glasses and a folded cloth. Popular in dining rooms and wine bars.

Objects that mean something

Your grandmother’s teapot, blue and white china, your wedding bouquet, painted from your photos.

Paint the objects you already own

This is the part almost nobody offers at large size. Send us photos of the real thing and we paint it. The teapot, the copper pan, the pears from your garden, the bouquet you dried after your wedding.

You do not need good photography. Put the objects near a window in daylight against a plain wall, then shoot one photo straight on and one from the side so we can read the shape. We combine several photos into one composition all the time, so objects that live in different rooms can share a canvas.

We also work from an image you did not shoot. A photo turned into a painting, a Pinterest board, a digital file, or an AI render. If your reference is a living artist’s work, we do not copy it. We paint in that manner instead: the same mood, palette and kind of arrangement, in an original composition.

Classical and moody, or modern and quiet

Still life splits into two looks, and the choice changes the whole room.

The classical Dutch look. A dark, almost black ground, a glowing pile of flowers or fruit, deep reds and golds. It suits a dining room with a deep wall color and dark wood, and it reads rich at night, which is why restaurants like it.

The modern minimal look. One vase, two pears, a lot of empty space, soft light, a pale ground. It suits a bright kitchen or a banquette wall where a busy painting would feel loud.

Any subject can go either way. Our still life collection is small and focused, while the larger floral and botanical collection holds most of our vase arrangements.

Matching your cabinets, tile or chair fabric

Still lifes hang close to cabinets, tile and chair fabric, so color matters more here than it does over a sofa. Send a paint code, a photo of the cabinet door, a tile, or a scrap of your chair fabric. Our painters mix the color, we photograph the mixed paint in daylight, and we send you that photo for approval before painting starts. If it is not right, we mix again.

A matched series for restaurants, cafes and wine bars

A run of still lifes along one wall is what makes a dining room look designed. A matched series means the same hand, the same palette and the same canvas depth in every piece, with a different arrangement in each. One painter carries a canvas from start to finish, and you can read how we paint if you want the order of the steps.

Mixed subjects count together in one order, so fruit, bread and wine pieces share the same rate.
Trade pricing starts at one piece. The rate improves at 6 pieces and again at 21.
For a first order or a large project we paint a sample, credited back on any order of 10 pieces or more.
Ten matching still lifes take 10 to 15 business days. Twenty five take 15 to 20. Over a hundred is scheduled with you.
Rolled canvas is the cheapest way to ship, especially over about 20 pieces. Your local framer stretches them on arrival.

Food subjects travel well across cultures, with one exception worth flagging. For venues in the Gulf and for Muslim guests we leave wine, spirits and pork out of the arrangement unless you ask for them, and paint coffee, tea, dates, bread and fruit instead. See art for Arabic and Gulf homes.

Size and hanging over a table or a banquette

Still lifes usually hang lower than other art, because the people looking at them are sitting down.

Over a dining table. Keep the canvas a little narrower than the table, leave clear wall on each side, and hang it low enough that a seated guest sees all of it.
Over a sideboard. Narrower than the furniture. A horizontal canvas suits a long sideboard, and so does a set of two or three in a row.
A banquette wall. Long and low. One wide canvas or a set beats a single square.
A kitchen nook. Usually the smaller end of our range, because cabinets and windows break up the wall.

Single canvases larger than 80 by 60 inches are quoted case by case. Send a photo of the wall with the furniture in it and rough measurements, and we will tell you what size we would paint.

Acrylic or oil, and how it ships

We paint in acrylic unless you ask for oil. Acrylic dries fast, holds bright color and lets us build texture quickly. Oil is available on request, and because oil dries slowly between layers, oil pieces take longer. Heavy texture and pieces 36 by 48 inches and larger sit at the top of their production band for the same reason.

Heavy texture ships stretched or framed, because rolling thick impasto is not a good idea. Delivery is EXW our Shenzhen studio and freight is quoted at cost. Express by FedEx or DHL takes 5 to 10 business days, and sea freight takes 25 to 40 days, which suits a large venue order planned in advance.

Old master still lifes and what we will copy

Classical still lifes are something we do paint, within one clear rule. Only works in the public domain get reproduced, which for us means the artist died more than 70 years ago and the work was published before 1931, so it is public domain in both the EU and the US. The reproductions we send are unsigned. Old master fruit pieces belong here too, and one buyers ask for often is Caravaggio’s Basket of Fruit.

We turn down requests to copy living artists, recently deceased artists, or another company’s designs, because that work belongs to the people who made it. If you send a contemporary still life you found online, we paint something in the same spirit rather than the same picture. Browse the reproductions hub and ask if the work you want is not listed.

Send it. Use the quote form, attach your images, and tell us the size, the room and the mood.
We reply. WhatsApp replies are usually immediate; email replies usually arrive within 12 hours, with a size, medium, finish and price.
Color check. If you asked for a color match, we mix it and send a daylight photo for approval.
We paint. A 50 percent deposit starts the work, and we send progress photos on commissions.
You approve. We send photos of the finished canvas. Nothing ships until you say yes.
It ships. Rolled, stretched, framed or crated, by the method you chose.

A good fit

A large still life for a dining room or kitchen, your own objects painted, a matched series for a venue, a color you have to hit, or a size nobody stocks.

Not a fit

You need it next week, or you want a copy of a living artist’s work, a ready-made print, or a signed original.

If a defect is our fault, we repaint the piece at our cost.

Questions people ask

Can you paint a still life of my own objects, like my grandmother’s teapot, from a photo?

Yes. Photograph the objects near a window in daylight against a plain wall, one shot straight on and one from the side. Send them with your size and the mood you want. We can combine several photos into one arrangement, so a teapot from one room and flowers from another can share a canvas, and we can add a personal element such as a date on a card.

Oil or acrylic?

Do you paint dark, moody Dutch style still lifes?

Yes. A dark ground with glowing fruit or flowers is one of the most requested looks for dining rooms and restaurants. We paint it as a style, not as a copy of one particular old painting. Send one image that has the mood you want, tell us the subject and the size, and we will paint an original arrangement in that manner.

How big should a painting be above a dining table?

Keep it a little narrower than the table so there is clear wall on each side, and hang it lower than you would over a sofa, because guests are seated. Over a long sideboard or a banquette, a wide horizontal canvas or a set of two or three works better than a single square. Send a photo of the wall with rough measurements and we will recommend a size.

How long would 10 or 20 matching still lifes for a restaurant take?

Production for 6 to 20 pieces is 10 to 15 business days. For 21 to 50 it is 15 to 20 business days, and 51 to 100 is 20 to 30. Pieces 36 by 48 inches and larger, heavy texture and oil sit at the top of their band, because thick paint has to dry between layers. Freight sits on top of that, so plan your opening date backward from both.

Can you reproduce a classical still life by an old master?

Only when it is in the public domain, which for us means the artist died more than 70 years ago and the work was published before 1931. That makes it public domain in both the EU and the US. Our reproductions are unsigned. We turn down requests to copy living artists, recently deceased artists, or another company’s designs, because that work belongs to the people who made it. Ask us about a specific work and we will check the dates.

Can I see the painting before it ships?

Yes. We photograph every finished canvas and send you the photos, and nothing leaves the studio until you approve. On commissions we also send progress photos while the painting is being built up, so a large or unusual arrangement is never a surprise at the end. If a piece has a defect that is our fault, we repaint it at our cost.

Can you paint from a Pinterest image or an AI render I made?

Yes. We paint from a Pinterest board, a digital file, a render or an AI-generated image, and we can change the size, crop or palette as we do it. There is one limit. If the image is a living artist’s painting we will not copy it. We paint in the same manner instead, with an original arrangement, and we tell you that before you order.
