We paint every piece to order in Dafen, Shenzhen, so the size, the palette and the finish are all decided by your project rather than by what happens to be in stock. You see photographs of the finished canvas before it ships, and nothing leaves the studio until you approve it. Trade pricing starts at one piece, and the rate improves as the count goes up.

On the left, a dark indigo peak points up into the cream sky, its sides dry-brushed in violet blue and white. To its right, pale blue and white strokes swirl in loose circles, like wind over water or mist around a ridge. A large navy mass rises on the right edge, with fine marks like dry grass along its top. Under all of it, a thick band of deep navy runs from one side to the other and opens onto a cream shape at the bottom, which looks like a still pool of light. One small dark brown oval sits in the navy, left of center. It is the only warm color in the painting. Thin lines scratched into the paint follow the swirls.

Navy art looks softest on a warm wall. Cream plaster, warm white and the taupe of the bedroom shown here all keep the deep blue from feeling heavy, and the cream ground of the painting blends into them. A pale blue gray wall gives a cooler, hotel suite feel. Oatmeal linen, boucle, reclaimed wood and brass all work well with it. As navy blue abstract art for a bedroom, it gives a strong but restful focal point over the bed. In a living room it anchors the wall above a sofa or daybed, and in a home office or meeting room it adds depth without bright color.

Each AA23 is painted new for your order, and one painter handles it from the first sketch to the final stroke. Nobody else works on it. The painter, who paints abstract work like this every day, first marks the peak, the swirl and the dark shoreline on premium linen. The indigo, navy and pale blue are mixed on the palette against this design, and the cream ground is laid in. Then the dark blues go on in sweeping strokes, some thick and some dragged dry so the weave shows. Fine lines are scratched into the paint last. We paint in acrylic unless you ask for oil. Oil is available on request and takes longer. On WhatsApp you get photos and short videos as the painting goes, and you approve daylight photos of the finished canvas before it is released.
One to five pieces take about 7 to 10 business days, and six to twenty take about 10 to 15. Sizes from 60 by 40 inches up sit at the longer end, since one painter covers the whole surface alone.
AA23 sits between abstract art and landscape. Nothing in it is drawn with care, yet most people find a mountain, mist and water within a few seconds. The dark indigo peak on the left and the navy hill on the right act like the sides of a valley. The swirling pale blue strokes between them could be cloud, wind or moving water. The cream band at the bottom could be a lake or simply light. That open reading is the point. Work like this is often called an abstract landscape. It gives the feeling of a place rather than a view of one, so each person who looks at it can bring their own.
The layout of AA23, a dark peak, swirling mist and wide pale space, will remind many viewers of East Asian ink landscapes. In that tradition, landscape painting carried spiritual meaning from very early on, drawing on Daoist ideas about nature. In the West, a spiritual reading of landscape only became common much later, with nineteenth century Romanticism. AA23 is not an ink painting, and it uses rich indigo paint instead of black ink. Still, it shares that old sense of mountains half hidden in cloud. For a hotel, spa or restaurant with an Asian or minimalist theme, that link is useful.
The palette is almost two colors. Deep navy and indigo cover the middle band and the right side, while warm cream fills the top and the bottom. Between them sit lighter steps of pale sky blue, violet blue and white, mostly in the swirls. Blue is one of the most consistent colors in research on color and feeling, and it is widely linked with calm, low energy moods. Deep navy tends to look rich and serious, and the warm cream keeps it from feeling cold. The one small brown oval is easy to miss, but it adds a single warm note that ties in with walnut, leather and brass.
The surface changes from part to part, which is why AA23 looks different up close. In the middle, pale blue and white strokes curl in circles, and thin dark lines are scratched through them. On the peak and along the edges, a dry brush drags color lightly so the linen weave shows through, like frost or spray. The navy band holds the heaviest paint, laid on thick in places. The cream ground is smooth and flat. Side light from a window or a picture light brings out the scratches and thick edges, so the painting shifts a little through the day.
AA23 is 3 units wide for every 2 tall. That shape is wide enough to anchor furniture, yet tall enough that the peak and the pool of cream both have room. It is a natural fit above a king or queen bed, a long sofa or a dining sideboard. In hotel rooms, the deep blue gives a restful view over the headboard, and the cream keeps a small room from feeling dark. In lobbies and meeting rooms, the larger sizes, up to 96 by 64 inches, give one strong focal point. Any size outside the list is painted to your measurements with the same proportions kept.
Two designs work well beside AA23. The charcoal splash and rust haze abstract horizon (AA14) shares the cream ground and a low horizon, but swaps the navy for charcoal and rust, so the two make a warm and cool pair. For a softer, more literal partner, the misty blue mountain ridges in an impressionist style (IA114) repeats the blue and the mist with real hills.
Over a bed or sofa, aim for about two thirds of the furniture width and keep 8 to 10 inches between the furniture and the frame. Every size is painted to order, and you approve daylight photos of your own canvas before it leaves the studio.
It is an abstract landscape, so nothing is drawn in detail. Most people see a dark indigo peak on the left, mist or water swirling in the middle, a navy hill on the right and a pale pool of light along the bottom. The cream ground stands in for both sky and water. Because no place is shown, it suits a project in any location.
Warm neutrals work best. Cream, warm white, oatmeal and taupe pick up the cream ground and soften the navy. A pale blue gray wall makes a cooler, tonal look. Avoid a dark navy or charcoal wall, where the dark parts of the painting disappear. Test a sample in the room, because light changes how blue looks.
AA23 is 3 units wide for every 2 tall. Aim for about two thirds of the furniture width. Over a queen bed about 60 inches wide, the 36 by 24 inch size fits, and over a king bed about 76 inches wide, try 48 by 32 inches. Over an 84 inch sofa, the 60 by 40 inch size fills the wall well. Lobbies can go up to 96 by 64 inches.
Yes. The painter can lighten the blue to denim, push it toward charcoal, or swap it for a deep green while keeping the same layout and cream ground. The small brown oval can be removed or warmed to rust. Send a paint chip or a room photo, and the colors are mixed against it on the palette. You see the change in progress photos well before the canvas is done.
Medium. The navy areas are painted thick in places, with small paint edges that catch side light. The swirls carry thin scratched lines, and dry brush strokes let the linen weave show through the blue. The cream areas are flat and smooth. It is textured paint, not plaster or 3D relief.
The peak, the swirl, the dark shoreline and the balance of navy and cream stay the same on every canvas. The exact curve of each swirl, the scratched lines and the dry brush edges change a little, since each piece is painted by hand. That small variation is normal for hand-painted work. For a long run, the painters can work from one approved sample canvas.
A thin gold frame is the classic choice and the look in the room photos, since navy makes warm metals stand out. Black gives a sharp, graphic edge, and white keeps it soft against a light wall. Wood suits farmhouse and rustic rooms. You can also order it rolled in a tube or stretched without a frame.
